Moving the desert

While the Dutch move the sea to reclaim land, the Emiratis move the desert! Right next to our suburb, countless shovels are put to work to flatten the desert in order to prepare the land for residential development. On Fridays (Dubai’s Sunday), these shovels are neatly lined up for the weekend. After having taken Cathy to the airport in the early morning, I drove up to the construction site to capture this rather unique scene.
