The last miles of the QE2

The Queen Elizabeth 2 arrived in Dubai as the final destination of her last-ever voyage. By pure coinsidence, Emirates Airlines’ third Airbus A380 arrived in Dubai on its maiden flight. This combination would provide a unique situation, the QE2 doing its last ever miles, escorted by the A380 doing its first ever miles. I had to be part of that. So, my friend Berend and I chartered a yacht, called a bunch of friends and sailed off to the open sea to welcome the QE2, and escort her to Dubai. It was an extraordinary experience!

The QE2 will be converted to a permanent floating hotel/conference centre/museum along Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
