Despite the fact that the glass is 75 cm thick, whenever I look at the massive and impressive Dubai Mall Aquarium, I can’t stop but think about the enormous destructive force the water would have if the glass breaks. The big news today: The glass cracked! Cleaners were seen mopping the floor while 10 million liters of water leaked out of the enormous tank. If I would have been there, my only thought would have been…. Run like hell!

Still a very impressive aquarium though (when it was still full), housing over 33000 fish of 85 different species. I took this photo last year when it just opened.

When I moved to Dubai in February 2006, the Burj Dubai, as it was known until its opening, was ‘only’ 50 stories high. After four years of construction since then, the building is now completed and was opened officially with a spectacular show, on 4 January 2010. Its official name was announced (Burj Khalifa) as well as its height of 828 meters.
